I went to Tesco with David today to try and buy a couple of "beauty supplies" (nail polish, nail polish remover and hairspray). I had no idea how...hard? and intimidating it would be to find those simple things in a Czech store. No English on the packages...no English directional signs...just me, David and our marvelous senses of direction to divine where the nail polish remover might be. We found the hairspray and nail polish fairly easy....the nail polish remover, however, was completely different. David ended up smelling a bottle of something in order to make sure that it was, indeed, nail polish remover.
A saleswoman did ask me if we needed help (I think), but she spoke to us in Czech. I have no idea what to say when people speak to me in Czech. I said "Excuse me?" with a smile....I don't know what else to do. I feel so small here...just so...small.
So the Vienna trip kind of fell apart. Which actually is looking like a bit of a blessing, because next week is going to be really busy: my class is going to the opera, to a writer's conference (it's the Czech Writer's Festival next week), and then on Friday we are going to Berlin. Oh, and we have a final project due on Thursday. Not a bad week :). And I am looking to spending more time in Prague...even though it seems so big sometimes.
